Mozambique - Reforestation

Project description

Environment

Nearly seventy percent of Mozambique’s population live in rural areas. Located on the coast, this East African country is home to endangered and endemic animal species. Historically home to vast mangrove systems and forests, Mozambique’s mangroves have been largely destroyed. With over 45% of the population living below the poverty line, the people of Mozambique rely on its natural resources and forests.

Project

Our partner Eden is working with local communities to restore, replant and protect these vital forest systems. Mangrove restoration and reforestation is taking place in Maputo Bay, located at the Southern tip of Mozambique, in close proximity to Maputo. The restoration and reforestation will provide stability against erosion and improve ocean and coral reef health.
